There are no rules… just a ceremony that fits you
Guardian of the threshold
Storyteller and ceremony guide
We live in a world seemingly filled with endless choices, but how much agency do we have over those choices, are they in fact independent choices or are we influenced into making them?
Are we led into social norms and traditional practices that we think are our choice? When, in fact, the opposite is true.
During the planning for a wedding there are many choices for a venue, dress, flowers and the people you wish to witness and play a part in this occasion, but how much time goes into deciding who should officiate the ceremony, who is going to play that crucial role on your wedding day? If you’re getting married in a religious setting it will be whoever the custodian of that particular venue is and often, for a non-religious ceremony, it will be a registrar, because you’re not aware that you can choose someone else.
Choosing an independent celebrant means you don’t have to be confined to a specific location or venue, time, or indeed timeframe - essentially anywhere, anytime!
If you choose me, or another independent celebrant for your wedding, you can decide when you get married from dawn to dusk (or at night if you wish!) and where you get married. It doesn’t need to be a licensed wedding venue, it can take place in your home, garden, woodland or any other venue you wish. And perhaps the most important part is how you get married - the music, the readings, the vows and any rituals you wish to include - the whole ceremony is created based on your choices.
Your script is your story, completely bespoke to you, crafted based on our discussions. This way, not only will the words be familiar, but the celebrant leading the ceremony will be too, as we’ll have had numerous meetings and discussions. You’ll have seen and approved the script, we’ll have discussed choreography and other meaningful moments that can take place during your ceremony. I can provide suggestions for poems or readings and rituals can include a handtying, candle ritual, ring warming or loving cup, or indeed a bespoke ritual for you - it really can be that personal. I can also help with writing your vows, if that’s something you’d like.
The choices really are endless, but don’t worry I can guide you through them. It’s about me getting to know you both individually, and as a couple, and ensuring that the way your story is expressed and shared with those most important to you is fitting for you - there are no rules.
The same goes for funerals, the ceremony doesn’t have to be in a crematorium, it can be in a village hall or your garden where there are fewer restrictions. Providing you follow the legal requirements to ensure the body is properly disposed of through burial or cremation, the ceremony itself can be whatever you like.
And if you would like a naming ceremony, this isn’t just about babies or children, it’s for anyone, at any age, for any reason. To celebrate adoption, reclaim your name after divorce, or to recognise your new name due to a change of gender.
